Equipment

There are some very good online retailers for wrestling gear. Try comparing prices on sites like www.suplay.com, www.themat.com, or www.wrestlinggear.com. Basic wrestling equipment includes a headgear, wrestling shoes, and a singlet.

  • Wrestling shoes
Wrestling shoes offer more ankle support than the traditional shoe and are designed to be lightweight and tight to the foot to promote freedom of movement. Wrestling shoes are relatively inexpensive. They can be purchased at Dick’s Sporting Goods, Big 5 and other stores, or online (see below).
  • Headgear
Headgear can prevent outer ear injuries and bruises during practice and competition. Headgear is not required, but is recommended.
  • Singlets
Singlets are the standard wrestling uniform and is designed to fit snug to the body so that it does not restrict the movement of either wrestler. Singlets are not required for practice, but are required for USA tournaments. Rhinos has some singlets available to purchase (mostly in larger sizes).
  • Kneepads
Kneepads are sometimes worn by choice.
